Models and Managers: The Concept of a Decision Calculus

چکیده
A manier tries to put together the various lesouroes under hu eontrol iato AH aotivitjr that aehieves his objectives. A model of his operation ean astdst him but isrobably will not unless it meets oertun requirements. A model that k to be used by a manager should be simple, robust, easy to control, adaptive, as comidete as poonUe, and easy to communicate with. By simile is meant eaqy to understand; by itdnut, hard to get absurd answers from; by easy to eontrol, that the user knows wbait input data would be required to produi» desired output answera; adaptive means that the model can be adjusted as new information is acquired; ctunideteneas imidies tiiat important i^nomena will be included even if they requira judipamttal estimates of their effect; and, finally, esmy to communicate w i ^ means tiiat ^ num^ier e»n quickly and easily change inputs and obtun and understand tiie outputs. Such a modd conobts of a set of numerical procedures for jnocessing data and judgments to assist miuiagerial deckion making and so will be called a deckdon otlcdus. An examide from marketing is described. It is an on-line moM for me by psodaet nanageis on advertitnng budgeting questions. The model is currently in tiM mm by several product mani^ers.

Rational Choice Theory: A Cultural Reconsideration
Economists have heralded the formulation of the expected utility theorem as a universal method of choice under uncertainty. In their seminal paper, Stigler and Becker (Stigler & Becker, 1977) declared that “human behavior can be explained by a generalized calculus of utility-maximizing behavior” (p.76). The universality of the rational choice theory has been widely criticized by psychologists, ...

This study deals with clarification of the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and decision making styles (rational, intuitive, dependant, spontaneous and avoidant) in N.I.O.P.D.C‘s managers. A collection of 55 managers were tested. Emotional intelligence was measured by Sheering’s EI questionnaire, and Scott and Bruce’s decision making style questionnaire was used for identifying ...
متن کاملNon-Newtonian Fuzzy numbers and related applications
Although there are many excellent ways presenting the principle of the classical calculus, the novel presentations probably leads most naturally to the development of the non-Newtonian calculus. The important point to note is that the non-Newtonian calculus is a self-contained system independent of any other system of calculus. Since this self-contained work is intended for a wide audience, inc...
متن کاملHow Effectiveness Of Comprehensive Performance Measurement Systems on Manager's Performance Through Modification of Mental Models (Learning Process)
One of the ways to reduce agency costs is to plan for the creation of effective decision-making information by designing appropriate comprehensive performance evaluation systems according to managers' learning process One of the important factors in the processing and classification of information for cognitive learning is mental models that are categorized in two dimensions of mental model co...
متن کاملRanking Efficient Decision Making Units Using Cooperative Game Theory Based on SBM Input-Oriented Model and Nucleolus Value
In evaluating the efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models, may be more than one DMU has an efficiency score equal to one. Since ranking of efficient DMUs is essential for decision makers, therefore, methods and models for this purpose are presented. One of ranking methods of efficient DMUs is cooperative game theory. In this study, Lee and Lozano mod...
متن کاملApplication of Rough Set Theory in Data Mining for Decision Support Systems (DSSs)
Decision support systems (DSSs) are prevalent information systems for decision making in many competitive business environments. In a DSS, decision making process is intimately related to some factors which determine the quality of information systems and their related products. Traditional approaches to data analysis usually cannot be implemented in sophisticated Companies, where managers ne...
